Korean Folk Painting Class (2021)

I took this class with Jieun Kim, an internationally known artist based in Seoul who has roots in Canada. I learned about new painting techniques and symbolism in historical Korean paintings. Her style of teaching is called 민화(채색화) (minhwa or cheasakhwa), the Korean colors are called 동양화물감 (dongyanghwa mulgam). She recommends using 신한 (shinhan) or 알파 (alpa) brands for the best quality on 한지(장지) (hanchi or cheongchi) paper. This was an amazing cultural learning experience that gave me important insights on the types of painting techniques and tools my students have learned before attending my classes.
